About This Video

What the Client Asked For

Video Burst was asked to help conceive and design the pilot webisode for TheRealDish, an awesome update of the classic restaurant review.  Rather than read one “expert” opinion, who wouldn’t rather watch a short, entertaining clip featuring the food, the chef, the ambiance and actual patrons?  All in less time than it takes to read your average restaurant review.  We savored the challenge.

The Video Burst Advantage

The amount of information we were able to present was staggering when compared to a restaurant review.  Not only the sights, the sounds and the atmosphere, but real people speaking off the cuff.  In other words, the real dish.  The trick was keeping the webisode contstantly moving at a fast pace while maintaining a light, casual feel.  It doesn’t hurt that we love food.

Webisodes

Online videos presented in a weekly series are one of the most exciting new formats on the web.  The research indicates that viewer loyalty is moving from broadcast TV to the much freer and edgier world of the webisode.  Also, webisodes can be shot several in a day and continually updated and tweaked based on viewer response.  Finally, truly “interactive” content is here, where viewers can participate by sending suggestions, voting for outcomes, competing in contests and even contributing video content themselves.  And when you look at the budget for talent in this video (none, since no professional talent was used) and script (a few introductory words from the presenter), it’s easy to see the huge monetary appeal of webisodes.

Why the Client was Thrilled

TheRealDish was thrilled because they relied on us to make a good idea great by adding all kinds of creative touches to their original concept.  Unlike the event and action video samples, this webisode needs a narrator to help tell the story, but notice the backseat the presenter takes to the sights, sounds and voices of participants.  Even with a presenter introducing the video, it’s the pictures that tell the story.  Honestly, wouldn’t you like to try that antipasta salad?
